Are appointments for renewal applications needed? Expand
Renewal applications can be dropped in the drop-off mailbox located in the lobby at our headquarters, located at 871 Rockdale Avenue, New Bedford MA 02740. Please refer to the Renewal Applicant Checklist prior to ensuring all necessary documents are included.
How do I change an address? Expand
Complete Change of Address form . Mail one to the police department of the city/town you are leaving and the city/town you are moving to. Also, call the State or mail a form to the state.
How do I obtain my pin number? Expand
Contact the Firearms Record Bureau at (617) 660-4722 from Monday through Friday (8 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
How do I obtain a Lost/Stolen Card? Expand
Contact the Firearms Division at (508) 991-6300 Ext. 79573 from Monday through Friday (8 a.m. to 6 p.m.)

Contact the Firearms Record Bureau at (617) 660-4722 or mail in the form.
How do I transfer firearms? Expand
Personal firearms transfers can be completed via Mass Guns Transaction Portal. You are allowed to PRIVATELY transfer/sell 4 firearms per year. Any additional transfers must be done through a Federal Firearms Licensed Dealer.
What are the criminal disqualifiers to obtain a LTC? Expand

Do I have to disclose dismissed charges? Expand
Yes -- Question 4 of the application refers to ever appearing in court for any charges. This includes if the charges are dismissed, CWOFD, or dropped at arraignment. This also includes any charges that were sealed or expunged.
How long before I receive the license? Expand
60-90 days from your appointment depending on a background investigation and turnaround times from the state. Please wait 60 days before contacting the Firearms Division regarding the status of your LTC.

NEW FIREARMS LICENSE APPLICATION CHECKLIST
Please be advised that if you fail to provide us with the following documents on the
date of your scheduled appointment, the appointment will be cancelled and
rescheduled for a later date.
( ) APPLICATION: Applications are to be completed prior to your scheduled appointment.
Please be sure to answer truthfully and type or print clearly. NOTE: Question (4) of page (2)
of the LTC application refers to any criminal charge brought forth against you, in the court of
law, regardless of the outcome. If you appeared in court as a defendant and the charges
brought against you were filed, dismissed, pardoned, sealed, etc... it is still your
responsibility to inform the licensing authority. Be advised that if your application is not
completed truthfully, your LTC or FID request will automatically be denied.
( ) PHOTOS and FINGERPRINTS: Photos and fingerprints will be taken by the Firearm’s
Division during your appointment.
( ) LICENSE FEE: A $100 non-refundable fee is collected when applying for an LTC or FID.
FID – UNDER 18, the fee is only $25.00. Personal checks, bank checks, and money orders
are the only forms of payment accepted. Cash IS NOT accepted. Please make checks
payable to: City of New Bedford. NOTE: All fees are waived for applicants who are 70 years
of age or older.
( ) IDENTIFICATION: You must bring valid photo identification. This includes a valid
Massachusetts Drivers License and/or Massachusetts Identification Card.
( ) CITIZENSHIP: Citizens born in the United States are required to bring either Birth
Certificate and, or US Passport to prove citizenship. Naturalized citizens are required to
bring their Naturalization Certificate, which should include the date, number, and location
(city/state) of naturalization. Non-US born applicants are required to bring a Permanent
Resident Card (Green Card).
( ) RESIDENCY: Applicants are required to bring one (1) of the following documents to
prove their New Bedford residency and/or business: utility invoice, credit card invoice, cable
invoice, bank statement, certified voter registration, business registration, etc. NOTE: Any
questions on what an acceptable form of residency is please contact the New Bedford police
Firearms Bureau.
( ) FIREARMS SAFETY COURSE: First time LTC or FID applicants are required to attend a
State Certified Massachusetts Hunter Safety and/or Massachusetts State Police Basic
Firearms Safety course. A certificate from either course will be required on the date of your
appointment.
( ) APPOINTMENTS: All new applications are processed & submitted for review by

Firearms LTC Renewal Checklist
Please be advised that LTC/FID renewals are done by a drop off mailbox. The
mailbox is in located the lobby of 871 Rockdale Ave. You must provide us with the
following documents. Once all the documents are completed it is to be placed ono
the drop ox mailbox. Failure to follow instructions/and or missing documents will
result in your application being returned to you.
DO NOT SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT IF YOU ARE RENEWING YOUR LTC
( ) APPLICATION: Applications are to be fully completed. Please be sure to include and
complete page 4, which asks if you have had any firearms lost or stolen.
( ) IDENTIFICATION: Applicants must provide a copy of a valid Massachusetts Driver’s
License and/or Massachusetts Identification Card. A copy of your most recent Firearms
License to Carry must be provide as well.
( ) RESIDENCY: Applicants must provide a copy of (1) of the following documents to prove
their New Bedford residency and/or business: utility invoice, credit card invoice, certified
voter registration and/ or business registration. NOTE: The forms listed above are the only
forms accepted as proof of residency. Insurance invoices and/ or documents from registry of
Motor Vehicles will NOT be accepted.

PRIVACY ACT STATEMENT – CIVIL FINGERPRINTING
Authority: The FBl's acquisition, preservation, and exchange of fingerprints and associated information
is generally authorized under 28 U.S.C. 534. Depending on the nature of your application,
supplemental authorities include Federal statutes, State statutes pursuant to Pub.
L. 92-544, Presidential Executive Orders, and federal regulations. Providing your fingerprints and
associated information is voluntary; however, failure to do so may affect completion or approval of
your application.
Principal Purpose: Certain determinations, such as employment, licensing, and security clearances,
may be predicated on fingerprint-based background checks. Your fingerprints and associated
information/biometrics may be provided to the employing, investigating, or otherwise responsible
agency, and/or the FBI for the purpose of comparing your fingerprints to other fingerprints in the FBl's
Next Generation Identification (NGI) system or its successor systems (including civil, criminal, and
latent fingerprint repositories) or other available records of the employing, investigating, or otherwise
responsible agency. The FBI may retain your fingerprints and associated information/biometrics in
NGI after the completion of this application and, while retained, your fingerprints may continue to be
compared against other fingerprints submitted to or retained by NGI.
Routine Uses: During the processing of this application and for as long thereafter as your fingerprints
and associated information/biometrics are retained in NGI, your information may be disclosed
pursuant to your consent, and may be disclosed without your consent as permitted by the Privacy Act
of 1974 and all applicable Routine Uses as may be published at any time in the Federal Register,
including the Routine Uses for the NGI system and the FBl's Blanket Routine Uses. Routine uses
include, but are not limited to, disclosures to: employing, governmental or authorized non-
governmental agencies responsible for employment, contracting, licensing, security clearances, and
