How do I apply for an LTC or FID?
Complete a firearms application that can be picked up in the police station lobby or by downloading/printing from the Mass.gov Mail the completed application, application fee, and if you are a first-time applicant, your firearms safety certificate to the Monson Police Department, 110 Main Street, Monson MA 01057, Attn. Firearms Licensing Officer. Paperwork can also be deposited into the drop box located in the lobby of the police station.

How much does it cost to apply?
Make check or money order out to the 'Town of Monson' for $100. Persons applying together may combine fees onto a single check.
For individuals 70 or older: New applicants over 70 years of age need to include the $100 application fee. There is no fee for applicants over 70 years old who are renewing their LTC/FID..

Why has my check not been processed or cashed yet?
Generally, applications are processed within a week of receiving them. Once the firearms licensing officer has processed the application, checks are turned over to the Town s Accounting Department for deposit.

When will my LTC/FID arrive?
Generally, applications are processed, and the necessary background checks are completed within a week of receipt. Applications and background checks are then submitted to the state for final approval. The Firearms Record Bureau prints LTC/FID cards according to their own schedule and then mails them to the police department. Once our firearms licensing officer receives your LTC/FID card in the mail, the permit will be activated and mailed to you.

How do I transfer firearms as a result of a private sale or obtained through an inheritance?
Go to Mass.gov Select the Massachusetts Gun Transaction Portal prompt and follow the directions for the transaction you want to complete.
