The Chief is responsible for everything here at Kingston PD. He works closely with town officials, other departments, community members, and representatives from local, state, and federal agencies to make sure we provide the best services we can for our town. The department is split into two primary divisions, Patrol Operations and Special Operations. The divisions are each overseen by a lieutenant, who report directly to the Chief of Police.

Oversees uniformed patrol, dispatch, and patrol based specialized functions. This division consists of our dispatchers, patrol officers and patrol sergeants. This is where most of our personnel work and this division always has a shift on-duty, 24/7/365, ready to respond. Our dispatchers answer both 911 calls and business line calls, as well as dispatch for both our Police and Fire Departments, coordinating their response and communicating with other departments and agencies when needed. Our patrol officers and patrol sergeants are the first response to significant incidents and handle all standard calls for service including speeding complaints, larceny, assault, crashes, and everything in between. Whether you call 911 with an emergency or the business line with a simple request, this division answers the call and will respond to help.

Oversees Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB), Family Services Unit (FSU), and other specialized functions. This division consists of our detectives, school resource officers, specialty sergeants, clinicians and Comfort Dog Mabel. CIB is responsible for conducting complex or high-priority criminal investigations (deaths, sex crimes, large thefts, drug trafficking, weapons violations, etc.) as well as working to ensure the successful prosecution of all criminal cases the department files. FSU is responsible for our community outreach events, working with at-risk populations, school resource officer assignments, and a robust five town co-response clinician program that responds to mental health and substance use related calls. If you have a request that might need plain clothes officers, specialized outreach, or other "non-standard" policing techniques, this is your crew.
