License to Carry Firearms (LTC)/Firearms Identification Card (FID)
A license to carry firearms can be issued for the following reasons, with additional restrictions as deemed appropriate by this authority: all lawful purposes, target, hunting, sport, and employment. A license to possess a machine gun will be issued only to a Massachusetts-certified firearms instructor or a bona fide collector.
All first-time firearms applicants must provide certification that the applicant completed a Basic Firearms Safety Course by a Commonwealth of Massachusetts Basic Firearms Course Instructor or Hunter Education and Firearms Safety Course given by the Massachusetts Department of Fisheries and Wildlife. The Hopedale Police Department ONLY accepts this approved Safety Course certificate. All active military or Massachusetts National Guard members are exempt from this requirement with the submission of a military ID.
All applicants seeking a License to Carry Firearms for employment purposes shall, on company letterhead, submit a signed letter from their employer stating his or her duties and need to carry a firearm. In the event the applicant is terminated or changes employment, the License to Carry Firearms shall be revoked. It is the responsibility of the applicant to notify the Licensing Authority of the Hopedale Police Department of any change of employment.
The application fee is $100 for all new issues and renewals. Your fee is NON-REFUNDABLE. PERSONAL CHECK, BANK CHECK, MONEY ORDER, AND CASH are accepted. Make check Payable to the TOWN OF HOPEDALE. Please bring your check or cash with you to your appointment. There is no charge for renewals if you are over 70 or more years old.
Please call the Hopedale Police Department at 508-634-2227 and speak with the on-duty Dispatcher to schedule your LTC appointment. Please keep in mind that your LTC card takes anywhere from 10 to 12 weeks to come in after your appointment. The on-duty dispatcher will call you when the card is ready for pick-up.
