Police Department
The Dalton Police Department is located in the basement of the Town Hall on Main Street. It has its own entrance around the corner on South Carson Avenue.
Administrative offices are open Monday through Friday. However, the department operates 24 hours a day, and anyone with a problem or question can reach an officer by calling the business line at 413-684-0300 .
Firearm Permits: Permits are processed by appointments only . See below for more information.

Firearms Licensing Processing
The Dalton Police Department is processing License to Carry or Firearm Identification Card applications and renewals by appointment only. Please contact 413 – 684 – 0300 to schedule an appointment. Appointments are scheduled at the convenience of the Executive Assistant.
An Act Modernizing Firearms Laws (Chapter 135 of the Acts of 2024) was signed into law by emergency preamble on October 2, 2024, by the Governor. There are several changes with this new law. For first time applicants:
Please bring the completed application, copy of your safety certificate, and a check/money order for $100 made payable to the Town of Dalton. NO CASH OR CREDIT CARDS ARE ACCEPTED.
For renewals:
Please bring a check/money order for $100 made payable to the Town of Dalton. NO CASH OR CREDIT CARES ARE ACCEPTED. No application is needed for renewals.
